Luxury Tours in Spain
Viavinum designs luxury tours in Spain around the country’s greatest wine regions: the historic bodegas of Rioja, the powerful reds of Ribera del Duero, the slate terraces of Priorat, the sherry soleras of Jerez and the Atlantic whites of Rías Baixas. Private journeys and small group departures with exclusive cellar access, architect-designed wineries, Michelin-starred tables and hotels set among the vines.
Spain has more land under vine than any other country in the world, and nowhere else in Europe offers this combination: bodegas that have been ageing wine in the same cellars since the nineteenth century, wineries designed by Frank Gehry and Santiago Calatrava, a Michelin constellation that rivals France, and a hospitality culture that makes every visit feel personal.
Our luxury tours in Spain are built to take advantage of all of it. A morning in the underground calados of a Rioja bodega, lunch at a two-star restaurant in the Basque Country, an afternoon tasting old vintages with the family who owns the estate, and a night in a hotel surrounded by its own vineyards. Small numbers, private guides and no rushing.
Luxury Travel in Spain, Region by Region
Every luxury Spain tour we plan brings together the same elements:
- Private bodega visits and tastings, hosted by owners, winemakers and cellar masters, including estates that do not open to the public
- Verticals of old vintages and library releases, poured straight from the family cellar
- Michelin-starred gastronomy in the Basque Country, Rioja and Andalusia, alongside the market taverns locals actually use
- Wine hotels and historic properties, from architect-designed bodega hotels to restored manor houses
- Private guides and transport, so you set the pace of every day
Travel on a small group departure, book a private wine tour, or let us build a custom journey around your own dates.
Spain is where the top end of wine travel still offers extraordinary value. The same budget that buys a weekend in Burgundy buys a week in Rioja: private tastings of old vintages, Michelin-starred dinners, a suite in a bodega hotel and the winemaker walking you through their vines. We build our luxury tours in Spain around exactly that.
Where to Go on a Luxury Tour in Spain
Spain does not have one wine capital but a dozen. Rioja is the classic: centuries-old bodegas, underground cellars and a landscape of vines beneath the Sierra de Cantabria. Ribera del Duero produces some of the country’s most sought-after reds along the high plateau. Priorat is Spain’s most dramatic terroir, a landscape of slate terraces in Catalonia. Jerez holds the sherry soleras of Andalusia, unlike anywhere else in the world. And Rías Baixas brings Atlantic Albariño and Galician seafood.
Most of our journeys focus on one or two regions in depth rather than trying to cover them all. See the full picture in our guide to Spanish wine regions, or browse the itineraries on our wine tasting in Spain page.

Private and Small Group Luxury Tours of Spain
We work in three formats, all with the same level of access to the bodegas:
- Luxury small group tours of Spain — scheduled departures with a maximum of a dozen travellers, expert wine guides and every detail arranged in advance.
- Private luxury tours — your dates, your pace, only your party. The most flexible way to reach the estates that do not take public visits.
- Bespoke journeys — celebrations, collectors’ trips and corporate incentive travel, designed from a blank page.
Spain also combines beautifully with Portugal: Rías Baixas and Ribera del Duero sit within easy reach of the Douro, so a single journey can cover both countries. See our Portugal wine tours for that side of the border.

When is the best time for a luxury tour in Spain?
September and October are the highlight: the harvest is under way, the vineyards are at their most beautiful and the bodegas are full of activity. May and June are equally good, with mild weather, green vineyards and quieter cellars. Jerez and Andalusia are excellent from October through to April, when the rest of the country is cooler and the sherry region is at its best.
How many days do I need for a luxury tour of Spain?
Five to seven days lets you explore one region in real depth — Rioja and the Basque Country, for example, or Ribera del Duero with a couple of nights in Madrid. Ten days is enough for two regions plus a city, and two weeks opens up a north-to-south route from Rías Baixas to Jerez. We would rather you saw fewer bodegas properly than many in a hurry.
What is included in a Viavinum luxury tour of Spain?
Private guides, visits and tastings at carefully selected bodegas, transport throughout the itinerary, wine hotels and boutique properties, and most meals, always with Spanish wine on the table. Group sizes stay small so every visit remains personal, and each itinerary sets out exactly what is included before you book.
Which Spanish region is best for a first luxury wine trip?
Rioja is the natural starting point: historic bodegas, spectacular modern architecture, easy access from Bilbao or Madrid, and the Basque Country’s Michelin restaurants within an hour. Ribera del Duero suits travellers who already know Spanish reds and want the most concentrated ones. Jerez is the choice for anyone curious about a style of wine they cannot find anywhere else — see our Jerez wine tourism guide.
