"Rioja and its wines"
Super recommended! My husband and I really enjoyed our honeymoon! Everything went perfect, the cellars were excellent and a very friendly treatment. We went to Tuscany. Thank you Beatriz for such a good tour, we are definitely invited to return!
"Magnificent honeymoon"
We repeat with Viavinum for our wine trip through DOC Rioja after the wonderful previous experience in Ribera del Duero. Always attentive and personal treatment, great selection of wineries and charming experiences.
"Quality wine tourism"
Viavinum and Ana are fantastic! Months before I left for Spain on a fun fueled trip with 12 girlfriends, I contacted Ana to help script some tours. I actually solicited three different companies and from the beginning Ana was the easiest to work with and came up with the most unique itineraries. In the end, we used her company for all of our ground transportation in Spain, a tour of Barcelona and another tour that included a full day outing to the Picasso museum, a Cava vineyard and outlet shopping at La Roca. First of all the tour guide that we had for the Barcelona tour was outstanding. This guide made the tour of the Sagrada Familia magical! She knew every intricate detail that will make me want to return in 2026 when it is complete. The tour to the Cave vineyard completely exceeded our expectations. We went to a small family owned vineyard that had splendid cavas. The visit included a tour of the winery, tasting and wonderful 4 course lunch. The highlight was meeting the very spry 85 year old owner/founder. The trip was topped off with a visit to La Roca outlet where Ana secured us 10% VIP coupons. Everything she arranged for us was executed in a professional manner. I have already recommended Ana to friends who plan to visit Spain the near future and will use her again when I return to Spain.
"The only way to experience great vineyards in Spain!"

How We Plan Your Luxury Wine Tasting Experience
Every high-end wine tasting we organize starts with a conversation, not a catalog. This is how it works:
- Tell us your taste and dates. Favorite wines, regions you dream of, travel dates and who is coming.
- We design the itinerary. We hand-pick wineries that open their private cellars and library vintages to our guests, plus restaurants and boutique hotels that match your style.
- We take care of every detail. Private driver, bilingual guide, reservations and timings, so you only have to enjoy the wine.
- On the road, we are with you. Our team is available throughout the trip in case you want to change any plans.
Example: 5 days of high-end wine tastings in La Rioja and Ribera del Duero. Day 1, arrival in Haro and dinner at a winery restaurant. Day 2, centenary cellars of the Barrio de la Estación and a vertical tasting of Gran Reserva. Day 3, a medieval village and a winemaker-hosted lunch in Rioja Alavesa. Day 4, transfer to Ribera del Duero for a barrel tasting of Tempranillo. Day 5, a final visit to a family estate and departure from Madrid.
Each private trip is quoted individually, based on the season, the wineries and the hotels you choose. Explore our private wine tours for ideas, or ask for a custom wine trip.
What are high-end wines called?
High-end wines are commonly referred to as premium, fine, reserve, or luxury wines. These terms generally indicate wines made from the best grapes, often from specific vineyard plots, and crafted with meticulous attention to detail. Terms like “Gran Reserva” in Spain or “Grand Cru” in France are legally regulated designations that signal exceptional quality and aging potential. In the world of high-end wine tastings, these labels are your guideposts. You’ll find that luxury wines are typically produced in limited quantities, using traditional methods and often aged in oak barrels to enhance complexity. They reflect a deep expression of terroir—the unique characteristics of soil, climate, and technique that make each bottle distinctive. Wines from iconic regions like Bordeaux’s First Growths, Burgundy’s Grand Crus, or Tuscany’s Super Tuscans are prime examples. Participating in a high-end wine tasting lets you explore the nuances and craftsmanship behind these exceptional bottles. Unlike mass-market wines, high-end wines are often collectible, meant for aging, and appreciated by connoisseurs. The price tag usually reflects rarity, critical acclaim, and artisanal quality. These wines are not just beverages; they’re cultural artifacts that tell a story of place, tradition, and mastery. Whether it’s a rich Barolo, an elegant Chablis, or a bold Napa Valley Cabernet, the category of “high-end wine” signals a refined, luxurious drinking experience worth savoring.
What is a wine tasting professional called?
A wine tasting professional is commonly known as a sommelier, though the role can vary depending on context. Sommeliers are certified experts in wine service, pairing, and tasting—often working in fine dining restaurants or wine-focused venues. Their deep understanding of varietals, vintages, and regions allows them to guide guests through high-end wine tastings with confidence and precision. In other settings, particularly at wineries or during private tours, you might encounter an oenologist (a specialist in winemaking science) or a wine educator, both of whom are equipped to lead tastings and explain the characteristics of the wines being poured. During high-end wine tastings, these professionals play a crucial role in enhancing the experience. They don’t just pour wine—they tell its story, explain its terroir, and help you detect subtle aromas and flavors. Some sommeliers have achieved titles such as Master Sommelier or WSET Diploma holder, marking them as among the elite in the industry. Whether you’re enjoying a tasting at a château in Bordeaux or a boutique estate in Tuscany, the presence of a knowledgeable wine professional transforms the experience. They can answer questions, suggest ideal food pairings, and make recommendations based on your palate. Their goal is to elevate your wine journey, helping you appreciate the craftsmanship behind each glass. In high-end wine tastings, this personalized guidance ensures that every sip is meaningful, enriching, and tailored to your taste preferences.
What are the different types of wine tastings?
Wine tastings come in many forms, each offering a unique perspective into the world of wine. The most common type is the horizontal tasting, where you sample wines from different producers but from the same vintage and grape variety. This allows for comparison across winemaking styles or regions. Another is the vertical tasting, which involves tasting several vintages of the same wine from the same winery. This helps you understand how aging and weather conditions affect the wine over time. A blind tasting hides the labels, so the focus is solely on sensory evaluation, often used in competitions or advanced wine courses. Food and wine pairings are tastings designed to explore how flavors interact, typically hosted by chefs or sommeliers. During high-end wine tastings, you may also encounter barrel tastings, where wines are sampled directly from the barrel before bottling, offering insight into their aging process and potential. Comparative tastings—such as Old World vs. New World wines—are also popular, showcasing stylistic differences between traditional European wines and those from regions like California or Australia. At the most luxurious level, private wine tastings in exclusive vineyards often include curated flights, rare vintages, and personal guidance from winemakers or sommeliers. These tailored experiences are designed for deep appreciation and discovery. High-end wine tastings may also include elements like vineyard walks, cellar tours, or even unique activities such as tastings during a hot air balloon flight or sunset picnics. Whatever the format, the objective is the same: to deepen your understanding of wine through thoughtful, curated exploration of aroma, flavor, and story.
What is the best tasting wine ever?
Naming the “best tasting wine ever” is subjective, but certain wines have achieved legendary status among critics and wine lovers alike. Bottles like the 1945 Château Mouton Rothschild, the 1978 Romanée-Conti, or the 1990 Château Margaux are often cited as some of the most exquisite wines ever produced. These wines are praised not only for their flavor and complexity but also for their rarity, historical context, and perfect aging. In modern times, California’s Screaming Eagle, Italy’s Sassicaia, and Spain’s Vega Sicilia Unico frequently appear on top wine lists and auctions. However, what makes a wine the “best” goes beyond reviews or price—it’s a deeply personal experience influenced by setting, company, and emotion. For many, the most unforgettable wines are those enjoyed during high-end wine tastings, where ambiance and expert guidance heighten the sensory journey. These tastings often include iconic labels, rare vintages, or boutique wines made in small batches. When served in perfect conditions and paired with exquisite cuisine, a wine’s flavors can transcend the ordinary. Whether it’s the silky elegance of a Grand Cru Burgundy or the bold richness of a Napa Cabernet, the best tasting wine is one that resonates with you personally. In high-end wine tastings, guests often discover their own “best ever” wines—moments of revelation that stay with them for life. Ultimately, the finest wines blend balance, complexity, and emotional connection, and tasting them is not just about flavor, but about experiencing something truly extraordinary.
What are the 5 levels of wine?
Wine is commonly categorized into five levels based on quality, production methods, and price point. These levels help guide consumers in understanding what to expect from each bottle, especially when planning or participating in high-end wine tastings.
- Entry-Level Wines: These are affordable, mass-produced wines that are easy to drink and typically meant for casual occasions. They offer simplicity, fruit-forward profiles, and minimal aging.
- Mid-Tier Wines: Often a step up in craftsmanship, these wines are usually made with better grapes and might include regional labeling or slight aging. They’re a great introduction to serious wine appreciation.
- Premium Wines: Here, winemakers begin focusing more on terroir, lower yields, and traditional methods. Wines in this category are often aged and more complex, offering a noticeable difference in texture and depth.
- Super Premium/Luxury Wines: These wines are produced in limited quantities with meticulous care. They often come from historic vineyards or top-rated appellations and include some aging before release. High-end wine tastings often focus on this level due to their exceptional quality.
- Iconic or Cult Wines: The pinnacle of winemaking, these are rare, often highly collectible wines. They command top prices at auctions and are revered by critics. Examples include Château d’Yquem, Screaming Eagle, and Domaine de la Romanée-Conti.
What is Boujee wine?
The term “Boujee wine” is a playful, modern slang term derived from “bourgeois,” often used to describe wines that are perceived as fancy, stylish, or luxurious—sometimes with a hint of irony. Think of it as the Instagram-era label for bottles that are associated with wealth, trendiness, and a taste for the finer things in life. Boujee wines aren’t necessarily the most expensive or critically acclaimed, but they carry a strong visual or cultural appeal. Sparkling wines like rosé Champagne, limited-edition Napa blends, or anything with an eye-catching label and high price tag can fall under this umbrella. In many cases, people use “boujee wine” to describe what they drink during celebrations, special dinners, or vacations, even if the wine isn’t technically a top-tier bottle. However, when used seriously, the term often overlaps with high-end wines—those found in luxury tastings and exclusive collections. During high-end wine tastings, you may encounter wines that are both boujee and genuinely exceptional in craftsmanship. The key difference is that high-end wines are defined by quality, heritage, and expert winemaking, while boujee wines focus more on image and vibe. That said, some wines—like Dom Pérignon or a Screaming Eagle Cabernet—manage to be both: luxurious, iconic, and definitely boujee. For wine lovers seeking substance behind the style, high-end wine tastings are the perfect way to explore wines that deliver both elegance and excellence.
What do you call a premium wine?
A premium wine is typically referred to using terms like fine wine, reserve, single-vineyard, or estate wine, depending on the region and classification system. These labels signal higher quality, often achieved through lower yields, hand-harvested grapes, careful fermentation, and extended aging. In Europe, designations such as “Gran Reserva” (Spain), “Grand Cru” (France), or “Riserva” (Italy) often indicate premium status, governed by strict regulations to ensure quality. In New World regions like California or Australia, the term “premium” is more loosely defined but still implies a superior level of craftsmanship and exclusivity. Premium wines are often aged in oak barrels, use grapes from the best plots, and reflect the unique terroir of their origin. These wines may also carry higher price points due to limited production and critical acclaim. In the context of high-end wine tastings, premium wines are central to the experience. Tastings may feature verticals (different vintages of the same wine), barrel samples, or rare bottles only available at the estate. Premium wines are often chosen for special occasions, cellaring, or pairing with gourmet cuisine. Whether you’re sipping a bold Super Tuscan or an aged Rioja, premium wines are all about quality, expression, and depth. They represent the peak of the winemaker’s art, offering complexity, structure, and the ability to evolve beautifully with time.
What is the king of all wines?
The title of “king of all wines” is most often attributed to Barolo, an iconic red wine from the Piedmont region of Italy. Made from the Nebbiolo grape, Barolo has earned this regal nickname due to its powerful structure, intense aroma, and exceptional aging potential. Known for its bold tannins and flavors of cherry, rose, tar, and truffle, Barolo is a wine that demands time to fully express itself—often maturing beautifully over decades. Its noble status comes not only from its taste but also its cultural prestige and historical significance within Italian winemaking. However, depending on whom you ask, other wines may also claim the crown. Bordeaux’s First Growths, Burgundy’s Grand Crus, or Napa Valley’s cult Cabernets are often seen as contenders in the royal family of wine. During high-end wine tastings, Barolo frequently shares the stage with these giants, allowing enthusiasts to compare styles and philosophies. What unites these “royal” wines is their complexity, aging potential, and the reverence they inspire. They’re often at the heart of curated tastings designed to showcase excellence and tradition. For many sommeliers and collectors, Barolo is the king not just for its taste, but for how it represents the soul of Italian wine culture. When experienced in a high-end wine tasting, Barolo is more than a drink—it’s a revelation.
How much does a luxury wine tasting experience in Europe cost?
There is no fixed price, because every high-end wine tasting experience is designed around the traveler. The final cost depends on the region, the season, the number of days, the category of the hotels and the wineries included: a tasting of library vintages at a top estate is not the same as a visit to a small family cellar. At Viavinum we prepare a tailored quote for each private trip, with everything included in a clear way, so you know exactly what you are paying for before you book.
Can you organize a private wine tasting for a special occasion?
Yes. Many of our guests travel to celebrate an anniversary, a honeymoon, a milestone birthday or a corporate reward. We can arrange a private tasting in a historic cellar, a dinner among the vines, a bottle from your birth year or a surprise for your partner. Tell us what you are celebrating and we will build the experience around it.
Luxury Wine Tourism

From vineyard picnics and food pairings to masterclasses and vertical tastings, wine experiences offer immersive ways to deepen one’s appreciation of wine. For luxury travelers, high-end wine tastings are at the pinnacle of these offerings—curated to highlight rare vintages, single-vineyard expressions, and expert craftsmanship. These experiences often take place in stunning locations: private tasting rooms, historic cellars, or terraces overlooking rolling vineyards. Wine experiences can also include hands-on activities such as grape picking, blending workshops, or cooking classes using local ingredients and wines. For couples, they become romantic escapes; for corporate groups, they’re sophisticated team-building activities. What makes high-end wine tastings truly special is the attention to detail and personalization—each tasting is crafted around your preferences and palate. At Viavinum, we create wine experiences that go beyond the ordinary, combining expert knowledge, luxurious settings, and insider access to offer moments of true discovery. Wine Paths
Wine Paths is both a concept and a curated approach to exploring the world’s finest wine regions. It refers to thematic travel routes that take visitors through key wine-producing areas, offering structured itineraries that highlight the best wineries, gastronomy, and landscapes of each destination. These paths may be regional—like the Bordeaux wine trail or the Rioja route—or experiential, focusing on high-end wine tastings, food pairings, and luxury accommodations. Travelers following wine paths often enjoy immersive experiences: meeting winemakers, attending private cellar tastings, and dining at vineyard-view restaurants. At Viavinum, we design custom wine paths that reflect your tastes and travel goals. Whether it’s a romantic journey through Tuscany or a deep dive into the vineyards of Priorat, our wine paths integrate cultural richness, scenic beauty, and premium service. Unlike traditional tours, high-end wine tastings along these routes are crafted to be personal, exclusive, and rich in storytelling. Each stop offers not just a taste, but an experience—revealing the unique character of the region and its wines. With Viavinum, your wine path is more than a route—it’s a journey into the soul of wine.
